Weighty Stuff
I appreciate a book that is both entertaining and informative. Blogcritics sent my way The Forbidden Daughter by Shobhan Bantwal, a novel centered on the issue of gender selective abortion in India. Though the characters could have used further development and the prose a little smoothing, overall it was a good introduction to a very serious issue. My review on it is here.

"a good plane book with little substance" eh? Sounds like one I want to read ... after the other 100 of those on my list.
That's too bad the characters weren't developed better. Sounds like it could have been very interesting.
OK - I have to revise my last comment. I was just reading your review to Brian, and I realized you said "a good plane book with A little substance." That makes more sense: I thought "with little substance" was pretty harsh after your commendation of the book.
Ooh. Good review. Tactfully done. You manage to praise the topic without dealing a crushing blow to an amateur author. I'll read it in a plane.
Mel- your comment made me laugh
A plane book as opposed to a plain book? :o) Good review. Now I'm curious who published it, so will research...
